Monika (Jurnee Smolett-Bell, “Bird of Prey,” and “Underground”) meets Sebastian (Johnathan Del Arco, “Star Trek: Picard” and “Major Crimes”) at a hospital trauma center after an event occurs nearby which injures their loves ones. Monika’s son was trapped and needs a blood transfusion to survive while the fate of Sebastian’s father is not any more promising. The massive traumatic event has put every hospital under pressure and Nurse Williams (Macy Gray) regretfully informs Monika there is not enough compatible blood available to save her son’s life. Sebastian must reflect on what his father would do when choosing to make the ultimate sacrifice so the next generation may go on.
About the Production:
Sacrifice was originally shot in the summer of 2014 as a project among a group of professionals, artists, and technologies with the same belief that everyone in the United States somehow has an immigrant heritage story. The film was conceived as part of an effort to support Immigrant Heritage Month and to build a coalition of influential people who shared our beliefs. Ultimately, the film was shelved for a few years until writer-director, Vaughn Juares, was motivated by the current humanitarian crisis created by the U.S. immigration policies, to revisit the project and finally complete the film in 2019. Vaughn and his team added to the film, cutting it into the short film that it is today and are now submitting the final completed film to festivals and events, starting with the premiere at the 14th Annual Method Fest in Beverly Hills in March 2020.
